About

The Good, The Bad, The Yuuri

This blog is dedicated to the character, Yuuri Katsuki, from the figure skating anime entitled, Yuri!!! On Ice. Referenced in the title, this blog works to highlight Yuuri's qualities as not only a character but as a narrator within the show whether they be spectacular or not so great. Yuuri is a character that many of us fans have found we can relate to. Whether it be through his shy nature, his insecurities, or even the way he holds his alcohol, we have found that we see a bit of ourselves in him.

Here we will talk about the ways that even though Yuuri is a great character, he isn't always the best narrator. Sometimes Yuuri's perception of his reality and the world around him isn't always as reliable as we would hope and that changes the way we, as an audience, understand what is actually going on.

This blog will contain spoilers, so I do advise you scroll through with caution if you have not fully watched the show.

Yuuri Katsuki

Born and raised in the small Japanese town of Hasetsu, Yuuri spent his days either in his ballet instructor's dance studio, working at his family's bathhouse, or on the ice with his two childhood friends. It was Minako, his ballet instructor, who encouraged him to learn figure skating. Taking her advice, a small Yuuri took up lessons at the towns rink, Ice Castle. Yuuri is currently a top figure skater certified by the Japan Skating Federation. At the age of 18, Yuuri moved to Detroit to train under Coach Celestino Cialdini and stayed there for five years, returning home only after finishing college.

Before graduating, Yuuri participated in that year's round of skating, advancing to the Grand Prix Final, but after receiving a phone call from home about his dog's death, Yuuri let his emotions get the best of him and placed last for that season. Letting his depression get the best of him, Yuuri stopped training and focused on school before returning home after graduation. Upon retuning, Yuuri skated the recent routine of his idol, the highly decorated Viktor Nikiforov, to his childhood friend. Unbeknownst to him, her triplets recorded the routine and posted it online where it quickly became viral. Completely embarrassed by this turn of events, yuuri shut himself from the world and became unaware of the events that were to come. Viktor had viewed his video and was now determined to become his coach.

Who could have known their relationship would turn into so much more as time progressed.

Only time and work on his own confidence with the help of his loved ones would show the world (and Yuuri himself) how great he actually is.

Let Me Introduce Myself...

A greeting from your fangirl of a blog runner.

My name is Taylor Arceneaux and I simply fell in love with the show, Yuri!!! On Ice, when I watched the first episode.

Immediately, I found that I could relate to Yuuri in various ways including his anxiety and low sense of self worth.

Yuuri seems to suffer from the same, if not, similar mental ailment that I do.

In running this blog and just talking about a character who is just so talented and amazing (even if he says he isn't or doesn't truly realize it), I feel that I can come to think the same about myself.

I hope whoever comes across this blog can share an appreciation for the show and Yuuri while even sharing a laugh or two.
